Impact of coal-fired electricity generation in South Africa

The South Africa is economically as a developing country and  is a significant carbon polluter and emitter of greenhouse gases,  mainly due to its coal-fired electricity generation facilities and large industries. The goals of the Kuyasa  retrofit project in South Africa was to improve the living conditions of the low income inhabitants of Kuyasa while reducing fossil fuel-based energy, energy costs and CO2 emissions.  The municipal departments involved in the project are the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) and the South African Export Development Fund (SAEDF). Khayelitsha was  the government subsidized projects developed by the Reconstruction and Development Program (RDP) to address the low-income housing shortage and  due to this program they built  the building of one million houses and   family  monthly income  income of less than US$495 (R3,500), that had never owned property before and resided in squatter camps close to urban areas. Approximately 400,000 people live in Khayelitsha and it have  population density of 7,748inhabitants per km,  the millions of poor citizens have received government-subsidized housing in South Africa. Each 30 m2 housing unit provided by the government in Kuyasa.
