UN-Habitat has launched its Strategic Plan for 2026–2029 to
address the 2.8 billion people worldwide who lack adequate housing. The crisis
is most acute in Africa and the Asia-Pacific, where 62% of urban dwellings are
informal. The new UN mandate prioritizes "climate sustainability" and
"inclusive prosperity," focusing on upgrading slums rather than just
building new, disconnected units.
